Due to the washing of this gate, there was a sudden increase in the water level of the dam. Due to the breaking of the gate of the dam, a flood situation arose in the surrounding area. Seeing this situation, the administration took immediate action and opened the remaining gates of the dam, so that the pressure on gate number 19 could be reduced.

The move was aimed at reducing the water level of the reservoir. Water Resources Department officials said that the water level of the reservoir would need to be reduced from 105 TMC to 65 – 55 TMC to repair Gate No. 19. Following the incident, a flood warning was issued for Koppal and its surrounding areas.
The administration, along with alerting the people of the area, also alerted the people living near the flooded area and issued a red alert in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh as the areas near the Krishna river could get flooded rapidly. They immediately alerted the people to move to higher ground. Shivraj Tangadagi, the minister in charge of Koppal district, took the situation very seriously and immediately held a meeting and deployed a team to release the water through the various gates as soon as possible.
